One of the major reasons for delayed discharge from hospitals is claimed to be delayed results. Anything that can improve the speed of turnaround in results to the labs and back to the wards, if we can get patients in and out sooner of the hospital system the sooner that they’re well enough to go home then we can save lots of bed days and hence we can save lots of money. The other big savings that can be made through the use of this sort of barcoding technology is simple efficiency in staff time because we waste so much staff time in re-entering data and re-keying data that we could just cut out all that redundant activity.

  • NHS Supply Chain helps hospitals choose “which band is best”

In response to the NPSA safety alert on NHS identification bracelets the NHS Supply chain has created an evaluation sheet designed to aid hospitals when deciding on the correct wristband. The evaluation covers the practicalities of the band, comfort, how long it lasted, ease of use and whether it was resistant to alcohol, soaps and water.
