How important is the NPSA report?

Site sponsors, Brenmoor went to visit Dr Rick Jones in Leeds. Dr Jones is an expert in Chemical Pathology and Immunology and in the first of our series of video questions he was asked for his thoughts on the recent NPSA report on patient wristbands.

The NPSA report is a real landmark report. It finally recognizes the importance of wristbands both for hospital efficiency and for patient safety. It’s become very clear that the quality of wristbands on patients in hospitals is very low quality and that leads to lots of problems with misidentification and inefficiencies in laboratories and unless we get that problem sorted out, we are actually putting patients lives at risk.

Brenmoor would like to thank Dr Jones and all his staff for giving over the time to help in the production of these short films.

  • NHS Supply Chain helps hospitals choose “which band is best”

In response to the NPSA safety alert on NHS identification bracelets the NHS Supply chain has created an evaluation sheet designed to aid hospitals when deciding on the correct wristband. The evaluation covers the practicalities of the band, comfort, how long it lasted, ease of use and whether it was resistant to alcohol, soaps and water.
